Channel 5 came out to party with us Gasser Lounge style last night! What's that mean, it means your camera man is going to have to squeeze his way into the bar because when the puck is in play, nobody's moving. Lost 5-4 in Double Overtime, but there's still Friday night at the Staples Center for Chicago to deal with... good luck with that.

So about a year ago, our friend Ryan heard about a guy looking to sell a bike that's been sitting in the back of a garage covered in a moth eaten dust covered blanket (illustration added for colorful storytelling), somewhere in the South Bay since 1979. That's (for you younglings) before Ronald Regan was President. Before John Lennon was shot and killed. And before Devo adopted their Utopian Boy Scout Uniform look complete with the "new traditionalist pomp."
Yeah, so probably about the time you were born, this bike had already been stashed. What kind of bike was it? "I dunno. Some kind of Harley..?"
Turns out, it was a Fat's Noriega build, purchased somewhere near 1972 (presumably from) Sportster's Haven, had a new front end put on in 1974, and (as stated) parked since '79.
Needless to say, Ryan snatched it up and began the long process of restoring it. Some of it's just to priceless to change, and it's functionality still intact, so why change it. A year or so passes fast and this bike is now Ryan's daily commuter. When you see him rolling to work along PCH and home everyday, know you're looking at the real deal.
3 spoke nipples wrapped in (what appears to be) copper wire and covered with something to hold it together.
Original rear hub lock-bar, with original keys.
There's not a lot of info on Fat's Sportster Haven / Fat's Noriega out there, but there's some if you look.

Flashback Friday... "Remember that one time those guys at Biltwell rented out the Ski Resort for a Chopper Swap Meet?"
"You (probably) didn't even know what a Sportster was in 2008?" Well, I haven't posted some old* pics in a while, so here's a flashback friday post for you all...
Yeah, it was hot as hell on that day too. Mountain High Ski Resort in Wrightwood, CA located in the hot as hell San Gabriel Mountains. Pretty much forgotten history now (even the website is gone) but the team over at Biltwell Inc., put on one kick ass Swap Meet "Chop Meet" at a location worth riding too. I remember my bald head getting a good sunburn that day. I think everyone got kicked out of the local bar after the chop meet too, but that's a story for another person to tell.
(p.s., that's a Sportster-done-right)
* not that 2008 really qualifies as old, but in the current historical sense, the resurgence of the "chopper" scene(sters)(etc., etc.) in modern times, 2008 is about half way back to when the popularity egg burst open and the chickens started fucking. "Sick Bobber, Bro!"

So, Saturday was a BBQ fest all day long. Val from MotorGrrl was celebrating her garage's 10th anniversary with a big bash all the way up and down Metropolitan Ave. We saw a ton of friends, some of which were still recovering from Thursday's Feltraiger benefit for Brandon. Then afterward we heard about a party going down at The Shop Brooklyn.

So last night the boys at Feltraiger put together a benefit for our buddy Brandon who went down pretty hard on his bike. The guys raised some funds and put together a pretty sweet raffle of prizes for the guy. Later on that night we rounded out the evening at 8 of Swords Tattoo Shop for "Ladies, Ladies" Art Show featuring a group exhibition of artwork from lady tattooers from around the world. Plus... free booze! Check it out.
